Nathan
Founder and Teacher
I started The Rising Stars Tutoring because I believe a tutor’s role is more than just to help with homework or prepare for a test. Students thrive when they feel supported, safe to make mistakes, and encouraged by someone who genuinely cares.
With a background in psychology and years of experience teaching and tutoring, I’ve seen how the right mix of passion, patience, and individualized teaching can completely transform a student’s confidence and motivation.
Over the past three years, I’ve helped high school and university students across Victoria turn struggles into strengths, whether that meant going from failing to scoring 90% on a final, or simply learning to believe in their own abilities again.
I built Rising Stars to bring that same transformation to more families, ensuring every student has access to tutors who are not only skilled, but also kind, adaptable, and invested in their growth.
Alivia
Science Teacher
I’ve always been passionate about science, which is what led me to complete my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Biology with Honours and Distinction at Thompson Rivers University. I love being able to share that passion with students, helping them to connect with what they’re learning and feel supported and confident throughout their academic journey.
During university, I discovered my passion for teaching through working as a supplemental learning leader for first- and second-year chemistry students. In this role, I created and facilitated study sessions and helped students gain the skills they needed to become confidentand independent learners. I was also a lab instructor for chemistry and organic chemistry, where I helped students develop their skills and confidence in the lab.
Teaching has been one of the most rewarding parts of my academic journey. I’m passionate about helping students develop effective study strategies and learning habits that will help with their academic success. As a tutor, I strive to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes and are given the space to grow.

Asees
STEM Specialist and Passionate Tutor
I earned my degree in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction, specializing in biomedical applications. That experience gave me a strong foundation in mathematics and advanced sciences, but more importantly, it taught me how to think critically, approach problems with curiosity, and break down complex concepts into steps that are easier to understand—all skills I now bring into tutoring.
During and after university, I discovered my passion for entrepreneurship. I founded my first startup, and later led marketing at a deep tech biotech company. Those experiences showed me the power of creativity and communication, sharpening my writing and storytelling skills while giving me the confidence to simplify even the most technical ideas for any audience.
Through all of this, teaching has been a constant thread. For over eight years I’ve tutored students from elementary through university levels in math, science, and writing. Whether helping younger learners or supporting students with challenges in learning, I’ve always loved adapting my approach to each student and creating a positive, engaging environment where they can grow.
For me, tutoring is about more than academics, it’s about building confidence, encouraging curiosity, and helping students discover their own strengths. That’s what keeps bringing me back to it.
Maddy
English and Math Teacher
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Philosophy. Studying English at the university level has helped me develop exceptionally strong communication skills. These skills go past writing, into explaining ideas clearly, listening closely, and adapting to each student’s unique learning language. I love figuring out how each student learns best and adjusting my approach so everything feels clear and manageable.
I’ve worked with students in a variety of settings, from experience as a Spanish teacher’s assistant to working with the ASSAI After-School Program in Kamloops, BC, where I supported children from diverse backgrounds in building academic and social skills. I’ve also spent years tutoring peers in English, math, and science, growing my experience with learners from elementary through high school.
My tutoring style is patient, encouraging, fun, and focused on building confidence as much as academic skill. Whether we’re tackling algebra, strengthening writing, or developing better study habits, my goal is to make learning feel approachable and empowering while maintaining a comfortable and joyful environment for each student.
I love helping students discover what they’re capable of, one step at a time, while building strong and meaningful connections along the way.
